Ghana to Introduce Hepatitis B Vaccine for Newborns at Birth in 2024

In a significant step towards enhancing public health, Ghana has announced the implementation of a Hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine for newborns, starting in the year 2024. Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), disclosed this news, which was reported by the Ghanaian Times on July 27, 2023.

Rising Trend of Strokes Among Young People in Ghana

In recent times, Ghana has witnessed a concerning increase in the number of stroke cases among young individuals aged 40 and below. Dr. Efua Commeh, the Programme Manager of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ghana Health Service, has shed light on this worrisome trend. According to Dr. Commeh, the surge in stroke cases can be attributed to the rising incidence of untreated or poorly managed hypertension among the younger population.
